The sentimental piece

The sentimental piece

Over the past few years, I have had the pleasure of reupholstering some pretty special pieces. Working on sentimental heirlooms is one of my favourite things to do. Most recently, I got to breathe new life into a beautiful antique chair that needed new fabric for 30 years. It had belonged to my client's grandfather. It had been his mother's before him.

Last year, I wove lovely red linen fabric for a fabulous family heirloom that was brought to Canada from Norway many years ago. The chair sat stripped down to almost nothing for 25 years before the granddaughter of the original owners contacted me. The chair was transformed into an amazing statement piece; not only for the rich red upholstery fabric, but for the fantastic history that went along with it.

Knowing the sentimental stories of the pieces I work on allows me to make a connection with my client, the piece of furniture, and  the family history. I am inspired to choose a pattern and colours that influence me, speak to my client,  and reflect the intrinsic beauty of the furniture. Each heirloom piece I do is one-of-a-kind. Every detail is specific to the needs of the client and the over all feel of the chair.

If you have a sentimental piece, or family heirloom you want to turn it into a WOW piece with designer hand-woven upholstery fabric, you can send inquires to abtextiledesigns@gmail.com, or on instagram @andreabulterdesigns.

I look forward to working with you soon!
