The textile industry is infamous for its waste. As a textile artist, this issue is constantly on my mind. I do not want to my works to impact the earth in a negative way. As an upholsterer, I am very aware of what I use, reuse, how much I throw out, and where my waste ends up. This is why I choose to upcyle and luxcycle furniture. I try to keep as much out of the landfill as possible. As a weaver, I know there will always be extra fabric from upholstery commissions and projects. This is why I created the zero waste project. I decided to design and construct products from the smaller pieces of hand woven or hand dyed fabric that could have been tossed.
I will continue to strive to craft functional, limited series products with net zero waste in mind. We can all be conscious consumers and producers.
